Saturday 02 Feb 2008 Play of the day

Gulfstream Race 9 Donn Handicap
Daaher is the chalk and the play of the day. Should be dominant from start to finish to log his 2nd Grade I win. The works are exceptional and there is no reason to play against this legitimate favorite. The power play will land on the chalk today.

This was a complete disaster at 4-5 odds as well. It seems like speed route horses are always a risky proposition off a layoff, this should have been considered before the race especially when backing chalk. The only thing to salvage out of this shipwreck is a lesson. This result reminds us that speed horses seem to have a harder time regaining previous form off a layoff. Some horses like Discreet Cat never regain their Grade I speed form ever again after a layoff.

Those races are extra tough with shippers from all ends of the earth and unless you really follow the meet, backing a horse like Daaher can be a mistake.
I don't know if McLaughlin uses calks down there and GP has no shoe board so thats another consideration.
Manana's another day.
